Around the end of August I finally decided to get a
subscription to Birchbox: a popular beauty, hair care, body care, and healthy
eating company that sends out a monthly box made up of five samples handpicked
just for you. If this is your first time ever hearing about Birchbox, please
allow me to educate you. After you sign up for your ten-dollar a month (just
ten dollars!) subscription, you make your profile tailored to your skin/hair
types, add preferences of samples to come in the mail, and other things you are
interested in seeing in your Birchbox. I am a big fan of things being custom
made or picked just for me and this company is perfect just for that.
My August Birchbox arrived within the first days of
September and I was giddy with glee when I opened my box. Inside were really
five perfect samples picked just for me. Now I have had the chance to give them
a go and see if I would buy the full size of some of these products. I waited until near of the end of September to make my first post so I could properly test out my samples.
Catherine Malandrino Style de Paris Fragrance- My first
thought when I spritzed this perfume on my skin was, “This is possibly the best
smelling perfume ever.” With top notes of citrus (a reoccurring favorite of mine) the scent opens layers of orange blossom, jasmine, and gardenia. With amber and musk finishing off the perfume. It is so
light and feminine and so versatile that I could wear it day or night.
Whish Shave Crave Shaving Cream in Acai Grapefruit- This was
my only disappointment in my whole Birchbox. I was really excited to use this
as it smelled amazing too. The texture is nice, more like a thick lotion and
once I applied it to my skin to shave, it stayed like a lotion. It didn’t foam
up or turn white like some shaving creams can. I rubbed it all over my leg and
it made no difference on my skin. I couldn’t even tell where I had already
shaved. I would only use this again to get rid of it.
Noir Long-Wear Eyeliner- Always a fan of black liner, this
Noir one was right up my alley. I’m not too picky either when it comes to
pencil or pen and this pencil is quite nice. The formula is quite creamy and
with a steady hand I achieved a nice line along my lashes. It stayed all day on
my eyes too and didn’t flake or anything.
LAQA & Co. Sheer Lip Lube Pencil in Bees Knees- Not a
huge fan of lip colors, I was intrigued to try this lip pencil after seeing it
on a sneak peek of the August Birchboxes for subscribers. My shade was a more
light orange shade, reminding me of a peaches & cream color. It was
definitely a summer shade and would have looked better against my skin if I had
more of a tan. The formula was really nice and lasted for a few hours, too.
It’s not really a lip pencil but more of a lip crayon that you’d apply straight
onto the lips. I would maybe try these again but in a more neutral color.
K6 Skincare, Clean Antioxidant Facial Cleanser- This natural and organic cleanser promises to remove dirt, oil, and makeup while soothing the skin. It doesn't foam up enough for my liking but the cleansing process feels quite natural as the brand promises. I would recommend this face wash to someone who is into more natural products or one who doesn't want the feel of a heavy wash on their skin.
